December 2011
Beginning in 2009, Fran Gale served as principal investigator on a Cooperative Ecosystems Study Unit project at Cape Lookout National Seashore in North Carolina. This OSP project included site visits in 2010 and 2011 with Historic Preservation Program students. Gale supervised the students in carrying out conditions assessments and conservation treatments on grave markers in several historic cemeteries near Portsmouth Village, an abandoned 19th town on Cape Lookout. These prototype treatments demonstrated best practices for cleaning, resetting and other repair work. The final report for this project was submitted to Cape Look National Seashore in December, 2011.
