Mebane Lounge

This team of four students embarked on an experiment to integrate their individual structures into a unified installation, ideally situated in Mebane Gallery. They adopted a comprehensive strategy, focusing on the dynamics of contraction and expansion while incorporating elements like narrow corridors to introduce unexpected moments. The culmination of their efforts was a multifunctional space within a space designed to enhance the UTSOA student community’s experience by offering a versatile area for socializing, studying, dining, or hosting gatherings.

This communal space was envisioned to also accommodate final reviews, serve as a gallery, or host special events. Color choice was informed by an analytical study of the color wheel, selecting three analogous colors to distinctly define the interior, exterior and interstitial spaces. The group unanimously chose varying shades of green for the exteriors, yellow for the interiors, and blue for the transitional spaces, with electric lavender accents strategically placed to introduce an element of surprise. Additionally, a vibrant ramp was designed to connect the structures and guide visitors through the space.
