Please join PSW representatives, Michael and Kristen Padavic, on Tuesday, October 24 for a presentation on the firm’s work and hiring practices. The event will be held in the Dean’s Conference Room (GOL 2.308) at 11:30am. Representatives from PSW's Austin office will be on hand to answer student questions. Lunch will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis courtesy of PSW.

This workshop will be a one-hour tutorial for students who are interested in learning to photograph their own models using a digital SLR camera and utilizing studio lighting. An overview of shooting modes, lens selection, aperture, shutter speed and exposure will be given, along with instruction on how to best utilize these camera settings in situations particularly relevant to students, including studio project and site condition documentation. Students will learn techniques to light their models, rules of composition, and troubleshooting.

Material Level showcased the work of Philadelphia-based artist and educator Lauren Pakradooni, a Guest Artist in Print at the Department of Art and Art History. Lauren Pakradooni’s studio practice is a conversation between sculpture and print media, in which she uses traditional printmaking techniques such as; etching, monotype, and silkscreen for unconventional and direct processes.

This one-and-a-half hour workshop will build on students’ basic understanding of how to use a DSLR’s manual settings to achieve desired effects. Long exposure photography is a technique used to isolate stationary objects in photos while showing motion, and to create a photograph in low-light situations.  Students will learn the basics of using a tripod and selecting the correct shutter speed and aperture settings to capture motion and detail.  Students will have the opportunity to practice as the sun sets with cameras available for check-out in the VRC.

This workshop will be a one-hour hands-on tutorial for students who are interested in learning to process their own 35mm or medium format (120mm) black-and-white film in the UTSOA's Darkroom. Students will learn techniques to load the film onto reels and develop film with black-and-white chemistry. Various film speeds and developing times will be covered. Students will learn how to wash and dry film and the proper techniques to preserve negatives.
