
Here's your chance to dive into the unique aspects of paper with Steph Rue, an artist who works primarily with handmade paper and books. Participants will learn about the history, technique, and application of Korean papermaking.
Participants will also create felted paper using the joomchi method, paper cord using the jiseung method, and learn how to make paper thread for weaving cloth using a Japanese method called shifu.

The Professional Residency Program [PRP] is a unique opportunity to expand a student's education through work experience in the architectural profession. In 2017, more than 40 students participated in the Professional Residency Program. The PRP Pecha Kucha public lecture (and reception) will feature short presentations from the these students providing insight into the their internship experiences as well as the firms themselves.

Join us for a field trip to the Harvest Lumber Company in East Austin at 9:30 a.m. on February 14th! Participants will be given a tour of Harvest Lumber Company by owners Kris Burns and Andrew Danziger. The company collects tree trunks from fallen trees around Central Texas and processes the wood for retail to the public.

AIA Austin and UTSOA Career Services have teamed up to bring in 20 local architects and designers for one-on-one student portfolio reviews. The review sessions will run from 6-8pm on Wednesday, February 7 in the Main Jury Room. Interested students can sign up for a 30-minute time slot to meet with the professional of their choice outside the Career Services office (SUT 2.126).

This workshop explores the impact of materials on human health in the interior environment. Richard Corsi, Professor and former Chair of CAEE, will discuss his research on indoor air pollutants. Gail Vittori, Co-Director of the Center for Maximum Potential Building Systems, will provide an overview of health-based criteria for building materials.

This workshop is a hands-on tutorial for students who are interested in learning how to make prints from black-and-white film negatives in the UTSOA's Darkroom. Students will learn how to use an enlarger to expose their negatives onto resin-coated paper. Correct exposure and developing times will be covered as well as proper print washing and drying techniques. Negatives can be provided if needed.
This workshop will be conducted by VRC Staff Member Matthew Van Hoorn.


Changes in energy codes are creating challenges to masonry wall systems. This presentation reviews exterior envelope R-Value requirements and masonry wall compliance options. Participants will also learn about a complete thermally broken, insulated masonry system that offers high thermal efficiency. The innovative design combines a pre-assembled structural masonry unit, molded EPS insulation insert and thin veneer face and provides design flexibility and installation efficiency.
