RESEARCH QUESTION
Interns play a key role on the Community Development & Revitalization (CDR) team, initially being trained on the administration of federally-funded grants, and then working within a division in their area(s)of expertise. If time permits, interns will be given the opportunity to rotate to other divisions to get a broader perspective of the CDBG-DR and CDBG-MIT programs begin administered.
PROJECT SUMMARY
Beginning June 2020, the Texas General Land Office (GLO) Community Development & Revitalization (CDR) partnered with the University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture on an internship program focused on disaster mitigation and recovery. The GLO-CDR is funded by Community Development Block Grants – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) and Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) that are allocated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
The partnership created several federally funded graduate and undergraduate internship positions to assist the Community Development and Revitalization (CDR) division of the GLO in the development, implementation, and administration of CDBG-DR and CDBG-MIT programs for the State of Texas. CDR is projected to administer over $14 billion in CDBG-DR and CDBG-Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) funding for the state of Texas. In the support of administering these grants, GLO-CDR is working with undergraduate and graduate students to learn through training about CDBG-DR and CDBG-MIT funding and assist in various ways, including accounting, auditing, environmental services, GIS development, policy development, planning, and technology development.
