Wooldridge Residence and Plaza by Curtis Lechner

With the announcement of Project Connect, a light rail system to partially run below the Guadalupe thoroughfare, Austin will soon have an obligation to craft the experience for train users. With many arriving from the airport, what will their first experience be here, and how can we educate them about our city? The Wooldridge Residence and Plaza highlights the duality of expression one expects from our municipality: sharp angles, uninterrupted lines, and jagged edges- all qualities which allude to Austin’s technological and human-made character. Wooldridge Park, on the adjacent lot, paints a soft, organic, rolling landscape - the opposite yet crucial nature of our town. To further show off Austinite's creativity, a residential complex was integrated on the site for crafty entrepreneurs. The residence was formed to showcase products to the passerby, act like a bazaar with its infinite labyrinth experience, and leave a lasting image of our city.
