This project was an exploration in the composition of spaces. We began with two horizontal “tubes” and one vertical tube and then pulled a mass out of each; the masses would be prescribed a set of programmatic characteristics such as introverted, extroverted, or social. I focused my design on procession. One enters from the back of the site, moving horizontally through the tube then down into a secluded meditation space. From there one must scale a tall ladder up to the next space. The climb is an onerous task but one is rewarded at the top with a peaceful sanctuary where they can look out above the world. Finally, one climbs down a short ladder and travels along a meandering path of flat ground and short stairways until they finally arrive in the sunken social space, coming back to earth.
